My previous guide for Prowlarr involved the use of Task Scheduler. Today I’m offering a recommended and excellent alternative for installing the latest Prowlarr version via Portainer. Prowlarr is an indexer manager/proxy built on the popular arr .net/reactjs base stack to integrate with your various PVR apps. Prowlarr supports both Torrent Trackers and Usenet Indexers. It integrates seamlessly with Sonarr, Radarr, Lidarr, Readarr offering complete management of your indexers with no per app Indexer setup required. In this step by step guide I will show you how to install Prowlarr on your Synology NAS using Docker & Portainer. Note: If you are looking for a Prowlarr alternative, take a look at Jackett.

💡Note: This guide works perfectly with the latest Prowlarr v1.25.4.4818 release.

• STEP 2

Install Portainer using my step by step guide. If you already have Portainer installed on your Synology NAS, skip this STEP. Attention: Make sure you have installed the latest Portainer version.

• STEP 3

Go to File Station and open the docker folder. Inside the docker folder, create one new folder and name it prowlarr. Follow the instructions in the image below.
Note: Be careful to enter only lowercase, not uppercase letters.

• STEP 4

Log into Portainer using your username and password. On the left sidebar in Portainer, click on Stacks then + Add stack. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 5

In the Name field type in prowlarr. Follow the instructions in the image below.

Note: Copy Paste the code below in the Portainer Stacks Web editor.

Note: Before you paste the code above in the Web editor area below, change the value for TZ. (Select your current Time Zone from this list.)

• STEP 6

Scroll down on the page until you see a button called Deploy the stack. Click on it. Follow the instructions in the image below. The installation process can take up to a few minutes. It will depend on your Internet speed connection.

• STEP 7

If everything goes right, you will see this message at the top right of your screen: “Success Stack successfully deployed“.

Go back to STEP 1 or you will deal with karma 🙂

Now open your browser and type in http://Synology-ip-address:9696 Set up the Authentication Method: Forms (Login Page) and Authentication Required: (Enabled). Type in your own Username and Password then click Save. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 10

On the left sidebar click Settings. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 11

Under Settings, click Apps. Under Applications, click +. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 12

Add Application, for example, Radarr. Follow the instructions in the image below. Note: Remember, you need to have Radarr installed on your NAS.

• STEP 13

Add the details below:

On the Name area, type in Radarr.
Under Sync Level, select Full Sync.

Type in your NAS local IP instead of localhost then add your Prowlarr Server address followed by :9696
Type in your NAS local IP instead of localhost then add your Radarr Server address followed by :7878

Type in your Radarr API Key. Follow the second screenshot at STEP 13, then click Save. Follow the instructions in the images below.

How to get the Radarr API Key?

Open your Radarr application on your NAS, then click Settings in the left sidebar. Under Settings, click General, then scroll down the page until you find your API Key. Copy the API Key, then paste it in the Prowlarr API Key area above.

• STEP 14

To prevent containers like Radarr, Sonarr, Readarr, Lidarr and others from going into timeout when you are looking for integrations in Prowlarr, remember to DISABLE/UNCHECK the Multiple Gateways option in network settings in DSM.

• STEP 15

Your Radarr has been added to Prowlarr. You can repeat the same identical operation by adding in Prowlarr other apps like Sonarr, Lidarr, Readarr etc.
