MeTube is a Web GUI for youtube-dl (using the yt-dlp fork) with playlist support. It allows you to download videos from YouTube and over 1770 other sites. You can download every video from the Internet in a couple of minutes directly onto your Synology NAS. In this step by step guide I will show you how to install MeTube on your Synology NAS using Docker.

STEP 2
Install Container Manager via Synology “Package Center”. If you run an older DSM version (under 7.2), search for Docker instead of Container Manager.
STEP 3
Go to Control Panel / Task Scheduler / Create / Scheduled Task / User-defined script. Follow the instructions in the image below.
STEP 4
Once you click on User-defined script, a new window will open. Follow the instructions below:
- General: In the Task field type in Install MeTube. Uncheck the “Enabled” option. Select root User.
- Schedule: Select Run on the following date then select “Do not repeat“.
- Task Settings: Check “Send run details by email“, add your email then copy paste the code below in the Run command area. After that, click OK.
docker run -d --name=metube \ -p 5992:8081 \ -e UID=1026 \ -e GID=100 \ -v /volume1/web/downloads:/downloads \ --restart always \ ghcr.io/alexta69/metube
Note: Before you paste the code above in the Run command area below, change the value numbers for UID and GID with your own values. (Follow my step by step guide on how to do this.)
Note: Before you paste the code above in the Run command area below, you have to add your personal path to downloads. For example I have used my personal downloads path folder -v /volume1/web/downloads:/downloads\ Change it according to your preferences. -v /path/toyour/downloads:/downloads \
STEP 5
After you click OK on STEP 4 a new warning pop up window will open. Click OK.
After you click OK, type in your DSM Password then click Submit. Follow the instructions in the image below.
STEP 6
After you click Submit on STEP 5, select your “Install MeTube” Task then click the “Run” tab. You will be asked to run Install MeTube – click OK. Follow the instructions in the image below.
STEP 7
Go back to STEP 1 or you will deal with karma 🙂
STEP 8
The installation process can take up to a few seconds/minutes. It will depend on your Internet speed connection. Now open your browser and type in http://Synology-ip-address:5992 Paste the video URL you want to download, and choose the format – MP4 for video and MP3 for audio. Select the quality then click the blue Add button to start the download. Follow the instructions in the image below.
STEP 9
You can use the Dark Theme format and you can also take a look at the download progress bar and speed in real time. Follow the instructions in the image below.
Enjoy MeTube! All files will be saved in your own folder you have chosen at STEP 4.
