Questarr is an Arr-inspired self-hosted video game manager that lets you discover, track, organize, and automatically download games. It pulls rich metadata from sources like IGDB, Steam, and others, manages your backlog with status tracking, integrates with common indexers and download clients for automated searches and post-processing, and provides a clean dark-mode UI with notifications and collection statistics. In this step by step guide I will show you how to install Questarr on your Synology NAS using Docker & Portainer.

💡Note: This guide works perfectly with the latest Questarr v1.4.1 release.

Install Portainer using my step by step guide. If you already have Portainer installed on your Synology NAS, skip this STEP. Attention: Make sure you have installed the latest Portainer version.

• STEP 3

Go to File Station and open the docker folder. Inside the docker folder, create one new folder and name it questarr. Follow the instructions in the image below.
Note: Be careful to enter only lowercase, not uppercase letters.

• STEP 4

Now create two new folders inside the questarr folder that you have previously created at STEP 3. Name them data and media. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 5

Get your IGDB Credentials *Client ID* and *Client Secret* by following these easy STEP by STEP instructions. You will need the IGDB Client ID and IGDB Client Secret later at STEP 11.

• STEP 6

Log into Portainer using your username and password. On the left sidebar in Portainer, click on Home then Live connect. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 7

In the Name field type in questarr. Follow the instructions in the image below.

Note: Before you paste the code above in the Web editor area below, change the value numbers for PUID and PGID with your own values. (Follow my step by step guide on how to do this.)

• STEP 8

Scroll down on the page until you see a button named Deploy the stack. Click on it. Follow the instructions in the image below. The installation process can take up to a few minutes. It will depend on your Internet speed connection.

• STEP 9

If everything goes right, you will see the following message at the top right of your screen: “Success Stack successfully deployed“.

The installation process can take up to a few seconds/minutes. It will depend on your Internet speed connection. Now open your browser and type in http://Synology-ip-address:4555 Create your administrator account. Type in your IGDB Client ID and IGDB Client Secret that you have previously created at STEP 5. Click Create Account. Follow the instructions in the image below.
