IoBroker is an open source free software for bringing different smart home devices (IoTs) together into a complete system (Smart Home System). These devices work on their own, but this gives us a complex control panel with a graphical interface that can be accessed on your Synology NAS via local network with a web browser. In this step by step guide I will show you how to install ioBroker on your Synology NAS using Docker.

💡Note: This guide works perfectly with the latest ioBroker v10.0.0 release.

• STEP 2

Install Container Manager via Synology “Package Center”. If you run an older DSM version (under 7.2), search for Docker instead of Container Manager.

• STEP 3

Go to File Station and open the docker folder. Inside the docker folder, create one new folder and name it iobroker. Follow the instructions in the image below.
Note: Be careful to enter only lowercase, not uppercase letters.

• STEP 4

Go to Control Panel / Task Scheduler / Create / Scheduled Task / User-defined script. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 5

Once you click on User-defined script a new window will open. Follow the instructions below:

1. General: In the Task field type in “Install ioBroker“. Uncheck “Enabled” option. Select root User.
2. Schedule: Select Run on the following date then select “Do not repeat“.
3. Task Settings: Check “Send run details by email“, add your email then copy paste the code below in the Run command area. After that click OK.

• STEP 6

After you click OK on STEP 5 a new warning pop up window will open. Click OK.

After you click OK, type in your DSM Password then click Submit. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 7

After you click Submit on STEP 6, select your “Install ioBroker” Task then click the “Run” tab. You will be asked to run Install ioBroker – click OK. Follow the instructions in the image below.

Please wait approximately 5 minutes for the installation to be completed or you will get a blank page if you try to connect too soon. Now open your browser and type in http://Synology-ip-address:7234 click START WIZARD. Follow the instructions in the image below.

Choose your language. Check Agree with License terms then click AGREE. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 11

Type in your own Administrator Password then click SET ADMINISTRATOR PASSWORD. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 12

Check Authentication in Admin then select Use self signed certificates. Click Apply. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 13

Click UNDERSTAND. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 14

Add your own details then click SAVE. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 15

Click Finish. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 16

Click Go to admin now. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 17

You will be redirected to an https port. If you are using the chrome browser, click Advanced. Click to Proceed to your local NAS IP (unsafe). Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 18

Type in the password for the admin user that you have previously created at STEP 11. Click LOG IN. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 19

Click DISCOVER to Discover your services and devices. Follow the instructions in the image below.

Finish!
