Heimdall is a way to organise all those links to your most used web sites and web applications in a simple way. Simplicity is the key to Heimdall. Why not use it as your browser start page? It even has the ability to include a search bar using either Google, Bing or DuckDuckGo. In this step by step guide I will show you how to install Heimdall on your Synology NAS using Portainer.
Install Portainer using my step by step guide. If you already have Portainer installed on your Synology NAS, skip this STEP.
Go to File Station and open the docker folder. Inside the docker folder, create one new folder and name it heimdall. Follow the instructions in the image below.
Inside the heimdall folder create a new folder and name it config. Follow the instructions in the image below.
Log into Portainer using your username and password. On the Portainer left sidebar click on Stacks. After you click on Stacks, a new screen will open. Click + Add Stack. In the Name field type in heimdall. Follow the instructions in the image below.
version: "2.9" services: heimdall: image: linuxserver/heimdall container_name: heimdall environment: - PUID=1026 - PGID=100 - TZ=Europe/Bucharest volumes: - /volume1/docker/heimdall/config:/config ports: - 8056:80 - 4443:443 restart: always
After you paste the code in the Web editor, change the value for TZ (Select your current Time Zone from this list).
After you paste the code in the Web editor, change the value numbers for PUID and PGID with your own values. (Follow my step by step guide on how to do this.)
Note: If you have your docker folder in a different volume, then change /volume1/docker/heimdall/config according to your settings. For example: /volume2/docker/heimdall/config or /volume3/docker/heimdall/config etc.
Scroll down on the page until you see a button named Deploy the stack. Click on it. Follow the instructions in the image below. The installation process can take up to a few minutes. It will depend on your Internet speed connection.
If everything goes right, you will see this message at the top right of your screen: “Stack successfully deployed“.
Go back to STEP 1. Remember that this is a free guide. Please support the content creator you love. 🙂
Before you open your browser, wait approximatively 5 minutes for the installation process to finish or you will get a blank page when you try to connect. After about 5 minutes open your browser and type in http://Synology-ip-address:8056/ Follow the instructions in the image below.
