EBook2Audiobook is a CPU/GPU converter from eBooks to audiobooks with chapters and metadata using Calibre, ffmpeg, XTTSv2, Fairseq and more. It supports voice learning and 1124 languages! In this step by step guide I will show you how to install eBook2Audiobook on your Synology NAS using Docker & Portainer.

Install Portainer using my step by step guide. If you already have Portainer installed on your Synology NAS, skip this STEP. Attention: Make sure you have installed the latest Portainer version.
STEP 3
Log into Portainer using your username and password. On the left sidebar in Portainer, click on Stacks then + Add stack. Follow the instructions in the image below.
STEP 4
In the Name field type in ebook2audiobook. Follow the instructions in the image below.

STEP 5
Scroll down on the page until you see a button named Deploy the stack. Click on it. Follow the instructions in the image below. The installation process can take up to a few minutes. It will depend on your Internet speed connection.
STEP 6
If everything goes right, you will see the following message at the top right of your screen: “Success Stack successfully deployed“.
STEP 7
Go back to STEP 1 or you will deal with karma 🙂
STEP 8
Please wait approximately 10 minutes or you will get a blank error page if you try to connect too soon. The installation process can take up to a few seconds/minutes. It will depend on your Internet speed connection and NAS processing power. Now open your browser and type in http://Synology-ip-address:7861 Upload a .txt file with some text inside it. Select the output voice (Fine Tuned Models). Click Convert. Follow the instructions in the image below. ⚠️Warning: Keep in mind that, when uploading a very large text file, like an entire ebook, it can take up to 10 days to process the entire file because of the slow CPU on Synology NAS devices.
STEP 9
Wait until the text file is converted into an audio file.
STEP 10
Click Play to listen to your file with the AI power. You can also download the file in a .m4b extension and listen to it on your PC.
STEP 11

STEP 12
Click on the Audio Generation Preferences tab to customize your audio generation parameters. Follow the instructions in the image below.

Note: If you want to run the eBook2Audiobook container over HTTPS, check How to Run Docker Containers Over HTTPS. In order to make eBook2Audiobook work via HTTPS, it’s mandatory to activate WebSocket. ⚠️Warning: I do not recommend running eBook2Audiobook via Reverse Proxy. This product should be used only on localhost. Why don’t I recommend running it via Reverse Proxy? Because if someone were to know your HTTPS address, then they can use your eBook2Audiobook and start converting files until your server goes into timeout.
