The Photo Gallery is a simple and, by design, featureless full-width photo gallery. It provides full photo width display and automatic image optimization, courtesy of NextJS and team. With Lightbox built-in, generation of loading blur, quick deployment and lazy loading, The Photo Gallery can handle hundreds to thousands of images at a time. In this step by step guide I will show you how to install The Photo Gallery on your Synology NAS using Docker.

STEP 2
Install Container Manager via Synology “Package Center”. If you run an older DSM version (under 7.2), search for Docker instead of Container Manager.
STEP 3
Go to File Station and open the docker folder. Inside the docker folder, create one new folder and name it thephotogallery. Follow the instructions in the image below.
Note: Be careful to enter only lowercase, not uppercase letters.
STEP 4
Now create two new folders inside the thephotogallery folder that you created at STEP 3 and name them public and storage. Follow the instructions in the image below.
Note: Be careful to enter only lowercase, not uppercase letters.
STEP 5
Populate the public folder that you have previously created at STEP 4 with your favorite pictures.
STEP 6
Go to Control Panel / Task Scheduler / Create / Scheduled Task / User-defined script. Follow the instructions in the image below.
STEP 7
Once you click on User-defined script, a new window will open. Follow the instructions below:
- General: In the Task field type in Install The Photo Gallery. Uncheck the “Enabled” option. Select root User.
- Schedule: Select Run on the following date then select “Do not repeat“.
- Task Settings: Check “Send run details by email“, add your email then copy paste the code below in the Run command area. After that, click OK.
docker run -d --name=thephotogallery \ -p 3600:3000 \ -e PAGE_TITLE=mariushosting \ -e PAGE_HEADER_TEXT=mariushosting \ -e PAGE_SHOW_FULLSCREEN_BUTTON=true \ -e PHOTO_SORT=numerical_file_name \ -e PHOTO_DEFAULT_REVERSE=false \ -v /volume1/docker/thephotogallery/public:/app/public/photos:ro \ -v /volume1/docker/thephotogallery/storage:/app/storage \ --restart always \ inlustra/the-photo-gallery:0.0.2
Note: Before you paste the code above in the Run command area below, change the value for PAGE_TITLE and add your own PAGE_TITLE. mariushosting is an example of a PAGE_TITLE. You should invent your own Page Title.
Note: Before you paste the code above in the Run command area below, change the value for PAGE_HEADER_TEXT and add your own PAGE_HEADER_TEXT. mariushosting is an example of a PAGE_HEADER_TEXT. You should invent your own Page Header Text.
STEP 8
After you click OK on STEP 7 a new warning pop up window will open. Click OK.
After you click OK, type in your DSM Password then click Submit. Follow the instructions in the image below.
STEP 9
After you click Submit on STEP 8, select your “Install The Photo Gallery” Task then click the “Run” tab. You will be asked to run Install The Photo Gallery – click OK. Follow the instructions in the image below.
STEP 10
Go back to STEP 1 or you will deal with karma 🙂
STEP 11
The installation process can take up to a few seconds/minutes. It will depend on your Internet speed connection. Now open your browser and type in http://Synology-ip-address:3600 Follow the instructions in the image below.
Enjoy The Photo Gallery!
