How to Install Swiish on Your Synology NAS

Swiish is an open-source, self-hostable platform for creating and sharing digital business cards. It lets you build customizable cards with contact details, generate QR codes (simple links or full vCards), share them via unique URLs, and enable recipients to save the info directly to their phones, with PWA support for offline access and an admin dashboard for management. This app helps me by giving me a polished, always-up-to-date digital business card that I can share instantly through a simple link or QR code, letting people save my contact details straight to their phones. It supports me in my journey by making networking effortless at events or online, keeping my professional presence under my full control on a self-hosted platform, and allowing me to customize how and when my information is revealed so I can connect more effectively without relying on third-party services. In this step by step guide I will show you how to install Swiish on your Synology NAS using Docker & Dockhand.

💡Note: This guide works perfectly with the latest Swiish v0.7.0 release.

• STEP 2

Install Dockhand using my step by step guide. If you already have Dockhand installed on your Synology NAS, skip this STEP. ⚠️Attention: Make sure you have installed the latest Dockhand version.

• STEP 3

Make sure you have a synology.me Wildcard Certificate. Follow my guide to get a Wildcard Certificate. If you already have a synology.me Wildcard certificate, skip this STEP.

• STEP 4

Go to Control Panel / Login Portal / Advanced Tab / click Reverse Proxy. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 5

Now click the “Create” button. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 6

After you click the Create button, the window below will open. Follow the instructions in the image below.

On the General area, set the Reverse Proxy Name description: type in Swiish. After that, add the following instructions:

Check Enable HSTS

Destination:
Protocol: HTTP
Hostname: localhost
Port: 8332

• STEP 7

On the Reverse Proxy Rules, click the Custom Header tab. Click Create and then, from the drop-down menu, click WebSocket. After you click on WebSocket, two Header Names and two Values will be automatically added. Click Save. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 8

Go to Control Panel / Network / Connectivity tab/ Check Enable HTTP/2 then click Apply. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 9

Go to Control Panel / Security / Advanced tab/ Check Enable HTTP Compression then click Apply. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 10

Go to File Station and open the docker folder. Inside the docker folder, create one new folder and name it swiish. Follow the instructions in the image below.
Note: Be careful to enter only lowercase, not uppercase letters.

• STEP 11

Now create two new folders inside the swiish folder that you have previously created at STEP 4 and name them data and uploads. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 12

Follow my step by step guide on how to activate SMTP for your Gmail account. This step is mandatory. Note: If you don’t want to use the easiest way for SMTP with Google and you already have SMTP details from your own Mail Server, you can just skip this STEP and use your personalized email SMTP details instead.

• STEP 13

Open your browser and type in http://synology-ip-address:3866 to connect to your Dockhand container. On the left sidebar, click Stacks then + Create. Follow the instructions in the image below.

• STEP 14

In the Stack name field, type in swiish. ⚠️Warning: Type in the name in lowercase letters. The installation process can take up to a few seconds/minutes. It will depend on your Internet speed connection. Follow the instructions in the image below.

Note: Copy Paste the code below in the Dockhand Compose Stack then click Create & Start.

• STEP 15

If everything goes right, you will see the following message at the bottom right of your screen: “Created stack “swiish”“.

Now open your browser and type in your HTTPS/SSL certificate like this https://swiish.yourname.synology.me that you have previously created at STEP 6. In my case it’s https://swiish.mariushosting.synology.me If everything goes right, you will see the Swiish Initial Setup page. Type in your own details then click Complete Setup. Follow the instructions in the image below.

Click Create Card. Follow the instructions in the image below.

Add an user URL slug then click Create. Follow the instructions in the image below.

Add your own details, links, images, style and options to your card, then click Save. Follow the instructions in the image below. ⚠️Warning: Your Bio information in that page should not be longer than 200 characters or you can’t save the card. Follow the instructions in the image below.

Click View to view your card. Follow the instructions in the image below.

You can easily share your card URL. You can also switch the theme to Dark. Follow the instructions in the image below.

You also have the option to share the card using a QR Code.

If you correctly set up the SMTP details at STEP 14, you’ll have the option to invite new users to your swiish instance via email.
