PSiTransfer is a simple open source self-hosted file sharing solution. It’s an alternative to paid services like Dropbox and WeTransfer. You can share multiple files with your own retention policy. In this step by step guide I will show you how to install PSiTransfer on your Synology NAS using Docker.
STEP 1

STEP 2
Install Docker via Synology “Package Center”.
STEP 3
Go to File Station and open the docker folder. Inside the docker folder, create one new folder and name it psitransfer. Follow the instructions in the image below.
Note: Be careful to enter only lowercase, not uppercase letters.
STEP 4
Go to Control Panel / Task Scheduler / Create / Scheduled Task / User-defined script. Follow the instructions in the image below.
STEP 5
Once you click on User-defined script, a new window will open. Follow the instructions below:
- General: In the Task field type in Install PSiTransfer. Uncheck the “Enabled” option. Select root User.
- Schedule: Select Run on the following date then select “Do not repeat“.
- Task Settings: Check “Send run details by email“, add your email then copy paste the code below in the Run command area. After that, click OK.

chown -R 1000:1000 /volume1/docker/psitransfer
Note: Before you paste the code above in the Run command area, change the value for PSITRANSFER_UPLOAD_PASS and add your own password. mariushosting is an example for a password. You have to insert your own password.
STEP 6
After you click OK on STEP 5 a new warning pop up window will open. Click OK.
STEP 7
After you click OK on STEP 6, select your “Install PSiTransfer” Task then click the “Run” tab. You will be asked to run Install PSiTransfer – click Yes. Follow the instructions in the image below.
STEP 8
Add the Wildcard Certificate to your synology.me DDNS.
STEP 9
Set up Reverse Proxy Rules using your own subdomain and DDNS name. Follow the instructions in the image below.
STEP 10
Go back to STEP 1 or you will deal with karma 🙂
STEP 11
Go to your synology.me address then add the password you have chosen at STEP 5 then click Login. Follow the instructions in the image below.
STEP 12
Drop the files you want to share by clicking the + icon. Follow the instructions in the image below.
STEP 13
After you upload the files of your choice set up the retention policy then click upload. Follow the instructions in the image below.
STEP 14
After your files are uploaded, you will get a Download Link to share with your friends. Follow the instructions in the image below.

You can start to download your files. Enjoy PsiTransfer!
