FileZilla is a free software, cross-platform FTP application, consisting of FileZilla Client and FileZilla Server. Client binaries are available for Windows, Linux, and macOS, server binaries are available for Windows only. Well today I will teach you how to install FileZilla client on your Synology NAS in less than 30 seconds directly through the Task Scheduler option. Itāll be over in a couple of seconds and itās essentially childās play.

STEP 2
Install Container Manager via Synology āPackage Centerā. If you run an older DSM version (under 7.2), search for Docker instead of Container Manager.
STEP 3
Go toĀ File StationĀ and open the docker folder. Inside the docker folder, create a new folder and name itĀ filezilla. Follow the instructions in the image below.
Note: Be careful to enter only lowercase, not uppercase letters.
STEP 4
Go toĀ Control PanelĀ /Ā Task SchedulerĀ /Ā CreateĀ /Ā Scheduled TaskĀ /Ā User-defined script. Follow the instructions in the images below.
STEP 5
Once you click on User-defined script a new window will open. Follow the instructions below:
- General: In the Task field type in āInstall FileZillaā. Uncheck āEnabledā option. SelectĀ rootĀ user.
- Schedule: SelectĀ Run on the following dateĀ then select āDo not repeatā.
- Task Settings: Check āSend run details by emailā, add your email then copy paste the code below in the Run command area. After that clickĀ OK.
docker run -d --name=filezilla \ -p 7171:3000 \ -e PUID=1026 \ -e PGID=100 \ -e TZ=Europe/Bucharest \ -e CUSTOM_USER=marius \ -e PASSWORD=mariushosting \ -v /volume1/docker/filezilla:/config \ -v /volume1/web/downloads:/data \ --restart=always \ ghcr.io/linuxserver/filezilla
Note: Before you paste the code above in the Run command area below, change the value numbers for PUIDĀ andĀ PGIDĀ with your own values. (Follow my step by step guide on how to do this.)
Note: Before you paste the code above in the Run command area below, change the value for TZĀ (Select your current Time Zone from this list).
Note: Before you paste the code above in the Web editor area below, change the value for CUSTOM_USER. Type in your own username. marius is an example for a username.
Note: Before you paste the code above in the Web editor area below, change the value for PASSWORD. Type in your own password. mariushosting is an example for a password.
Note: in the code above afterĀ -v /volume1/web/downloads:/data \ you have to add your personal path to downloads. For example I have used my personal downloads path folder -v /volume1/web/downloads:/data \ Change it according to your preferences.Ā -v /path/toyour/downloads:/dataĀ \
Note: If you have your docker folder in a different volume, then change in the code aboveĀ /volume1/docker/filezilla according to your settings. For example: /volume2/docker/filezilla or /volume3/docker/filezilla etc.
STEP 6
After you click OK onĀ STEP 5Ā a new warning pop up window will open. ClickĀ OK.
After you click OK, type in your DSM Password then click Submit. Follow the instructions in the image below.
STEP 7
After you click Submit on STEP 6, select your āInstall FileZillaā Task then click the āRunā tab. You will be asked to run Install FileZilla ā click OK. Follow the instructions in the image below.
STEP 8
Go back toĀ STEP 1Ā or you will deal with karma š
STEP 9
The installation process can take up to a few seconds/minutes. It will depend on your Internet speed connection. Now open your browser and type inĀ http://Synology-ip-address:7171 If everything goes right, you will see the FileZilla Login page. Type in your own CUSTOM_USER and PASSWORD that you have previously created at STEP 5 then click Sign In. Follow the instructions in the image below.
STEP 10
Your files will be saved in the “data” folder. Just to clarify: although in FileZilla you will see the “data” folder, in your NAS the files will be saved in the folder you have chosen at STEP 5.
Enjoy FileZilla!
