How to Install IRC Client on Your Synology NAS

In 1988, IRC (Internet Relay Chat) appeared, which opened the way for real-time chat. Perhaps one of the most popular online chat models in the 1990s was mIRC, where users could chat in rooms (channels). It doesn’t matter what OS you use. TheLounge IRC client just works wherever Node.js runs. The self-hosted web IRC client named TheLounge can be installed on your Synology NAS. In this step by step guide I will show you how to install TheLounge IRC Client on your Synology NAS using Docker and Dockhand.

💡Note: This guide works perfectly with the latest Thelounge v4.5.2 release.

Install Dockhand using my step by step guide. If you already have Dockhand installed on your Synology NAS, skip this STEP. ⚠️Attention: Make sure you have installed the latest Dockhand version.

• STEP 3

Go to File Station and open the docker folder. Inside the docker folder, create one new folder and name it thelounge. Follow the instructions in the image below.
Note: Be careful to enter only lowercase, not uppercase letters.

• STEP 4

In the Stack name field, type in thelounge. ⚠️Warning: Type in the name in lowercase letters. The installation process can take up to a few seconds/minutes. It will depend on your Internet speed connection. Follow the instructions in the image below.

Note: Copy Paste the code below in the Dockhand Compose Stack then click Create & Start.

Note: Before you paste the code above in the Stack area below, change the value for TZ. (Select your current Time Zone from this list.)

• STEP 5

If everything goes right, you will see the following message at the bottom right of your screen: “Created stack “thelounge”“.

• STEP 6

On the left sidebar, click Containers. Identify your TheLounge container then click on ports 9002:9000. Follow the instructions in the image below.

The installation process can take up to a few seconds/minutes. It will depend on your Internet speed connection. Now open your browser and type in http://Synology-ip-address:9002 Choose your favorite IRC server, then click Connect. Follow the instructions in the image below.

If you want, you can change the IRC server at anytime. In the example below, I connected to the Undernet IRC server. Follow the instructions in the image below.

You can easily switch the theme to dark. On the left sidebar, click the Settings icon. Select the Morning theme. Follow the instructions in the image below.
