Synology: Portainer Docker Version 2.45.1

Synology Portainer Docker Version 2.45.1

On September 17, 2026, the Portainer team released the first maintenance update to the current Long Term Support line, moving from 2.45.0 LTS to 2.45.1 LTS. This is a classic LTS patch release: focused on security hardening, dependency updates, and small stability improvements rather than big new features. For anyone running Portainer on a Synology NAS or UGREEN NAS (or any other Docker host), it is a straightforward and recommended update.

⚠️One important clarification for the community:

A few days ago some websites summarized Portainer’s 3.0 announcement by saying the team is “dropping the Community Edition”. That wording caused unnecessary concern. As always, mariushosting presents the accurate picture. Here is exactly what Portainer (and CEO Neil Cresswell) actually said:

  • Portainer is not discontinuing Community Edition.
  • Community Edition continues to live on the 2.x codebase (currently the 2.45 LTS line).
  • There will simply be no separate CE build of Portainer 3.x.
  • Portainer 3.x remains free for up to 3 nodes under the existing “3 Nodes Free” program.
  • The 2.45 LTS line (both CE and Business Edition) will keep receiving security fixes, bug fixes, and selective back-ports for as long as the LTS is supported.

Neil Cresswell’s official clarification (from the Portainer blog) makes it even clearer:

“We are not abandoning Docker. Nothing that works today gets ripped out of 2.x or out of the Docker environments in 3. The 2.45 LTS line (both CE and BE) will continue to receive security fixes, bug fixes and back-ports of every 3.x capability that has a corresponding Docker API. CE stays on the 2.x codebase. CE will continue to receive patches and updates because it is a core component of Business Edition 2.45 LTS, so it is maintained by the same team, on the same schedule, for as long as that LTS is supported.”

So if you are happy with Docker and with the current Portainer CE experience, you can stay on the 2.x / CE line with full confidence. Nothing is being taken away from you.
