April 2026 has delivered some great news for the self-hosting community, and the biggest highlight is the return of Booklore. The developer is back, and the project is once again live. You can grab the latest release here. Many of you had already migrated to Grimmory in the previous months, but it’s fantastic to see Booklore back in action.
Ghostfolio rolled out version 3 with several breaking changes. I’ve already updated every relevant guide on mariushosting, and the new Docker Compose files fully reflect the latest version so everything should work smoothly.
Portainer continues to disappoint. Despite my repeated efforts, bug #13075 (open for over two months now) still hasn’t been fixed. The issue has made the tool frustrating to use for many, and a growing number of users are switching to Dockhand. I’ve contacted the Portainer team on social media and reported the bug on GitHub, but it seems to have been ignored. It’s a real shame, as this bug is causing unnecessary headaches for the entire community.
On the bright side, Dockhand just released version 1.0.27, which finally adds the ability to delete the default template every time you create a new stack. No more unwanted Nginx Compose file appearing by default. That annoyance is now history! (STEP 24 for Synology NAS ) (STEP 25 for UGREEN NAS) (STEP 31 for Asustor NAS)
BentoPDF now requires a secure context starting from version 2.8.3. While basic features usually still work over plain HTTP, advanced features such as Office-to-PDF conversion may fail or be limited without HTTPS due to browser security restrictions. For the full experience, it is recommended to run BentoPDF behind Reverse Proxy with an Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate.
Outside our self-hosted bubble, the world isn’t looking too rosy. The ongoing oil crisis triggered by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and rising tensions in the Middle East is pushing energy prices higher and creating real uncertainty. In this climate, only a handful of generous supporters stepped up this month. Support for mariushosting remains very low, and as always, I rely on the community’s help to keep producing up-to-date, high-quality guides. A huge thank you to everyone who’s always here. You make this possible. mariushosting is your home for clear, real-world-tested guides that are updated in every detail. Whether you run a Synology, UGREEN, or Asustor NAS, my goal is simple: help you become truly independent with your own hardware.
One final note: a small group of people continue to send microscopic donations (like 0.01 cents) and then demand full specialized technical support. When I refund them out of my own pocket, they still get offended. Some even become verbally aggressive and start spreading negativity about me across social media. I want to be clear. I deeply appreciate every genuine supporter, but this kind of behavior makes it harder to keep helping the community. Thank you again to all the kind, respectful people who make mariushosting what it is. See you in the next May update! Below you’ll find the most recent guides I updated in April 2026.
