Synology: Huge Docker Container Updates March 2026

Synology Huge Docker Container Updates March 2026

March 2026 has been an intense month, full of major updates, a few disappointments, and plenty of real talk from the self-hosted world. The good news is that Dockhand continues to grow incredibly day after day. What started as a breath of fresh air has become the preferred Docker management tool for thousands of us with serious homelabs. It’s replacing Portainer at an impressive speed, with real quality-of-life improvements: cleaner UI, better multi-host support, rock-solid stability, and features that actually matter for those who care about privacy and control. And the best part? It remains completely free for personal use and 100% self-hosted. If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out on something big.

Unfortunately, not everything has been positive. Portainer is affected by two bugs that I personally reported more than a month ago in the new LTS version 2.39.0, and they still haven’t been fixed, except for one. The first one is #13075 and it’s not solved. The second was #13082, which was only fixed in 2.39.1. Both make the stacks part unreliable and frustrating to use. It’s pretty sad to see a historic tool in this state. Fortunately, Dockhand continues to be an excellent Portainer replacement, and many of you are migrating without regrets.

Another important March highlight is Grimmory, which completely replaces Booklore. Booklore no longer exists: the developer did a full delete on the entire project, deleting the GitHub repo, official site, and Discord after community criticism about the excessive use of AI in PRs and development. Grimmory is the active successor/fork and a clear improvement. That’s why I published two brand-new, complete guides this month. Both are fully tested, up-to-date, and ready to use.

I’ve updated hundreds of guides, tons of compose files, and thousands of screenshots this month. In the coming months I’ll also be adding the Asustor guides that the community has been asking for. Important advice: avoid AI-generated websites full of NAS guides. They’re low-effort, packed with errors, broken compose files. Here on mariushosting everything is tested and written by a real human, me, Marius, who immediately fixes errors and breaking changes down to the smallest detail almost in real time. I care deeply about this blog and spend several hours every single day working on it.

Speaking of UGREEN: the Kickstarter had the usual classic issues (extremely high demand, supply-chain delays, and some complaints), but the news is positive. The campaign launched in March, it’s already heavily funded, and UGREEN is moving forward with production and the expected deliveries. Anyone who pre-ordered can relax because the project is proceeding.

The world outside our self-hosted bubble isn’t looking great: the oil crisis (caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and tensions in the Middle East) is driving up prices and creating energy uncertainty. In this context, only a few Samaritans supported me this month. Support for mariushosting is low and, as always, the community’s concrete help is needed to keep up-to-date, high-quality guides. Thank you to everyone who’s always here. mariushosting is home: clear guides, tested by a real person, updated in every tiny detail, and designed to make you truly independent with your NAS. Whether it’s Synology, UGREEN or Asustor, I’ve got you covered. Below, the most recent updated guides on mariushosting in March 2026.
