On May 20, 2026, WordPress 7.0 code-named “Armstrong” honoring the American Jazz pianist Louis Armstrong was released to the public. This version is available for “download” from wordpress.org and not in the Synology Package Center. So, if you want to download and install WordPress 7.0 on your Synology NAS, you have to follow my step by step guide on how to manually update a new version of WordPress on your Synology. I recommend everyone use the official version of WordPress on their NAS, or the Docker version.

WordPress 7.0 introduces dozens of enhancements. Over 76 feature requests/enhancements, and over 300 general bug fixes. To see the full list of fixes, you can browse the WordPress 7.0 documentation page.

These bugs affect WordPress version 6.9 and all older versions since 3.7, so you’ll want to upgrade. WordPress 7.0 is THE BEST version of WordPress to ever ship out. The next major release will be WordPress 7.1 which will be released to the general public at the end of August 2026.
