Synology Set Up Email Notifications on Pi.Alert

Have you already installed Pi.Alert on your Synology NAS? Today, after many, many emails asking me how to set up email on Pi.Alert to be able to receive notifications, I have finally come about to writing an article on how to set up Gmail on Pi.Alert so you can receive alert notifications if new and unknown devices are found on your WIFI/LAN. See the details below.

Install Pi.Alert using my Docker Guide. If you already have Pi.Alert installed on your Synology NAS, skip this STEP.

  • STEP 3

Follow my step by step guide on how to activate SMTP for your Gmail account.

  • STEP 4

Open your Pi.Alert instance. On the left sidebar click Settings then Email. Add the settings below.

Enable Email: Check.
SMTP server URL: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP server PORT: 465
Send email to: Type in your own Gmail address.
Email subject: Pi.Alert
Skip authentication: Uncheck.
SMTP user: Type in your own Gmail address.
SMTP password: Type in your own Gmail App Password / STEP 3.
Don’t use TLS: Check.
Force SSL: Check.

Scroll down the page until you find the Save button. Click Save. Follow the instructions in the image below.

A new pop up window will open. Click OK. Follow the instructions in the image below.

Click the test icon to test if your email settings work. Follow the instructions in the image below.
