A few days ago Synology unveiled 3 new rack-mounted NAS models, RackStation RS2421+, RackStation RS2421RP+ and Rackstation RS2821RP+. RS2421+ and RS2421RP+ featuring 12 disk bays and RS2821RP+ featuring 16 disk bays. All models are available globally starting April 23, 2021. All 3 models, are using the new AMD Ryzen V1500B CPU. Although this is a processor based on the Zen architecture of the first generation, thanks to it, these Rack Stations are able to offer up to 3.6 times higher computing performance than the previous generation, up to 2,200/1,154 MB/s sequential read/write performance to support multi-user and demanding workloads.
There is a 4GB pre-installed memory module, but it is possible to go up to 32GB of RAM. The NAS models are also equipped with PCIe 3.0 slots and can be further expanded using an RX1217/RX1217RP drive.
There are no NVMe slots for cache, as is the case for desktop models such as DiskStation DS1621xs+; for cache, you can take advantage of the PCIe slot, but you will have to choose between cache on SSDs and faster network connectivity. Like all Synology brand products, the RackStation RS2421+, RackStation RS2421RP+ and Rackstation RS2821RP+ are also equipped with the DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system and therefore integrate with other Synology solutions, and beyond. The operating system can easily be upgraded to DSM 7 beta.
Note: What is the difference between RS2421+ and RS2421RP+? The main difference between the two models is that the RS2421+ is a single fixed PSU model, while the RS2421RP+ is a dual power supply model. RP stands for dual power.
Note: What price do they have? How much do Synology RS2421+, RS2421RP+, RS2821RP+ cost? Thereās no fixed price for this. If youāre interested in buying the models above, please contact Synology.
Note: You will don’t find this models online or any retail store.
Note: When will Synology RackStation RS2421+, RackStation RS2421RP+ and Rackstation RS2821RP+ come out? In the next days/week.
