Synology: DS725+ Release Date and Specs

Synology DS725+ Release Date and Specs

A new product joins the ranks of Synology and of course mariushosting couldn’t pass on the opportunity to let you know about it. The DS725+ comes with the same AMD Ryzen R1600 CPU with a 2-core 2.6 (base) / 3.1 (turbo) GHz CPU Frequency that you have already seen in the previous DS723+ model. In this model, you don’t have the option to install the 10GbE module in the back like the previous DS723+ model. The default installed memory is only 4GB, and it’s expandable up to 32GB.

There is support for M.2 2280 NVMe SSDs, but only with PCIe 3.0 – M.2 slots on the DS725+ are limited to PCIe 3.0, NOT PCIe 4.0. This means it can handle NVMe M.2 2280 SSDs designed for PCIe 3.0, and while PCIe 4.0 SSDs may work in backward compatibility mode, they will operate at PCIe 3.0 speeds (up to ~3,900 MB/s theoretical maximum). PCIe 3.0 was released in November 2010, making it about 14.7 years old as of June 2025. There is NO option to install a 10GbE module in the back like was the case for the DS723+.

If you want to move your current non-Synology disks from, for example, the DS723+ into the DS725+, you will not be stressed with disk incompatibility messages and everything will work smoothly. However, if you decide to put in new disks that are not from an older NAS, you will be asked to buy Synology disks because disks from other brands are not supported.
