Today, March 11, 2026, just a few hours ago I published an article about the freshly released WordPress 6.9.3. Well, I didn’t even have time to drink a coffee before the WordPress Security Team released WordPress 6.9.4! Yes, you read that right: three versions in roughly 24 hours (6.9.2 / 6.9.3 / 6.9.4), with the latest security release landing today. Why is this such a rare event?

What happened in the last few hours is exceptional:

WordPress 6.9.2 (security release) that fixed 10 vulnerabilities, but introduced a serious bug on some sites (white screen / template loading issues).
WordPress 6.9.3 (bugfix release, released just hours later) quickly addressed that critical bug to prevent sites from being blocked.
WordPress 6.9.4 (additional security release) Today, March 11, 2026, the Security Team discovered that some of the security fixes from 6.9.2 were not fully applied. So they released this fourth version to complete the necessary patches.

In short: three extremely close releases to handle a complex security issue + a collateral bug introduced by the patch itself. This is one of the fastest sequences remembered in recent years for WordPress core. It happens very rarely precisely because the team does a huge amount of testing beforehand, but when a critical security flaw is involved and the patch creates side effects, the response is lightning-fast to protect the 43% of websites worldwide that run on WordPress.

WordPress version 6.9.4 is available for “download” from wordpress.org and not in the Synology Package Center.
