On January 9, 5 years ago to date, mariushosting was born. The day marked an adventure into the unknown as it meant diving head-first into self-hosting and all that came with it. I’ve shared with you a few times already that, at the time, while I did have years of experience with website hosting using external hosting services, blogging, server management, cybersecurity and SEO, I hadn’t, until that point, actually self-hosted. Five years ago, I started because I had to (note: skyrocketing hosting expenses). After a good few months of looking for the best server to host my website, I finally got one and set it up. Within days, mariushosting was online and I began sharing my journey with the world.
I like to think mariushosting itself has become a community. A community of like-minded individuals that share a common passion and are driven by genuine curiosity and a desire to make their lives easier and better through technology. A community focused on the people, a community for the people, providing content that is easy to follow, practical and up-to-date.
Of course, there have been challenges and so much work. But, since last year, we’ve gone from 36K to 57K members on Facebook and from a couple of thousand to over 6.5K members on Discord. I’ll take this as a sign that people are appreciating all the work put into this project. And none of this would be possible without the hard work of all those contributing to this common goal, admins and moderators on Facebook and Discord, group and channel members, and Synology NAS users everywhere sending in feature inquiries, writing emails and providing much-needed support.
Thank you, everyone! You are the Greatest Of All Time! And happy anniversary to mariushosting! May there be many more to come and share with you all! See you all with a new post soon!
