Tracearr is a free, open-source, self-hosted monitoring platform that provides real-time visibility and analytics for Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby media servers through a single unified dashboard. It tracks active streams with details like viewer location on an interactive world map, device information, codecs, bitrate, and bandwidth usage, while offering deep historical insights into playback patterns, library usage, storage, and viewing trends. Unlike Plex-only tools like Tautulli or Jellyfin-focused ones like Jellystat, Tracearr supports multiple servers of any mix in one interface and stands out with intelligent account sharing and abuse detection. It uses rules to flag issues such as impossible travel (e.g. logins from distant cities minutes apart), simultaneous streams from different locations, excessive concurrent sessions, suspicious device changes, geo-fencing violations, and inactivity anomalies. It automatically adjusts per-user trust scores and sends real-time alerts via Discord or other channels. Tracearr is ideal for media server admins seeking better oversight, control over sharing, and a clean, powerful alternative to fragmented monitoring solutions. In this step by step guide I will show you how to install TracearrĀ on your Synology NAS using Docker and Portainer.
