Amazon Will Discontinue Access to Amazon Drive For Synology Users

Shocking news, my fellow Synology users! Did you too, like millions of other users, receive this Amazon email a few hours ago saying that Amazon Drive discontinued its services via Hyper Backup and Cloud Sync?

We’re writing to let you know about an upcoming change that may affect how you access your content on Amazon Drive, and to help you take steps to keep your content safe. We understand that you have used Synology Cloud Sync or Hyper Backup on Synology NAS to store information on Amazon Drive.
Amazon will discontinue access to Amazon Drive by Synology Cloud Sync and Hyper Backup starting on November 1st, 2020. Neither application will have access to Amazon Drive after November 1st, 2020, and the only way you will be able to access your stored content will be via Amazon Drive or Amazon Photos web, desktop, and mobile apps.

Amazon Drive cloud no longer work with Cloud Sync Synology Hyper Backup

Amazon will discontinue access to Amazon Drive via Synology Cloud Sync and Hyper Backup starting November 1, 2020. Neither of the two apps will have access to Amazon Drive after November 1, 2020, and users can only access the stored content via Amazon Drive or the Amazon Photos Web, the desktop app and the mobile apps.

Synology didn’t stand by idly and instead tackled the issue head on in order to protect all its users:

The solution offered by Synology: We have you covered!
For Amazon Drive Users: Ease the Transition with C2, Free.
Maintaining a remote backup is important. For affected users, apply before January 31, 2021 to get free access to Synology C2 Backup until March 31, 2021.

Fortunately I have never used Amazon services, but that’s because, since I have a Synology NAS, I thought that “Synology C2” is the best solution for me as a Synology user. Synology C2 is a Synology brand Cloud service. And I was right: I never had any problems. In short, today I am not confronted with this problem that will soon affect millions of Synology users.

Note: Some time ago I talked about why it is a good idea to keep a Cloud service with Synology C2 and today’s news is proving me right. Call it competitors’ envy or whatever you want, but over the years Synology has made me understand that it cares about its customers and, above all else, it cares about keeping its customers’ data safe.
Note: How much does Synology C2 cloud backup cost? Here is the detailed pricing for US and Germany.
